About Muirneag

“Muirneag” (pronounced “Moornyak”) is the Gaelic for “beloved”, the same meaning of my name 'Amy' in Latin . I am an anthropologist, designer, environmentalist and trade union activist.

As a child, my family moved from San Francisco to the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, and many journeys later found me living in the Far East, where I spent 10 years traveling extensively in South and Southeast Asia.

Now settled in Scotland, I want to bring the bustling marketplaces of Latin America, Africa and Asia to your home.

Anthropologists note that some of the earliest human activity was travel for the purpose of exchange—of ideas, techniques, objects. Even today, objects still represent relationships—between buyer and seller, giver and receiver, the spiritual and physical worlds, and between creator and interpreter.

I hope not only to bring creative and beautiful objects to your home, but to tell you something about the people who made them, the processes and materials used, and the meaning of their designs and symbols. Each item has its own story to tell…...click on ‘Marketplace’ to see the full array.

Amy McNeese-Mechan,

Roving anthropologist
